Al-Jawāhir fī Tafsīr al-Qurʾān by Ṭanṭāwī and Tafsir-e Novīn by Moḥammad Taqī Sharīʿatī are two examples of contemporary scientific exegeses. The present article, using a descriptive-analytical method and library resources, identifies the merits and demerits of each of these interpretations by comparing and contrasting the scientific findings within them. It demonstrates how the objectives and living conditions of the interpreters have influenced the formation of their exegeses. By examining examples of scientific verse interpretations from both scholars and critiquing each interpretation, it concludes that Tantawi's goal is primarily to convey new sciences to Muslims, leading to the emergence of an extreme scientific interpretation that has distanced itself from the Qurʾān's educational and guiding objectives, resulting in foundational, methodological, and content-related issues. Sharīʿatī, by pursuing an educational objective, has facilitated the formation of a moderate interpretation, which suffers from fewer drawbacks and is more content-oriented. While articulating the scientific aspect of the verses, he reminds us of their guiding dimension, which has a monotheistic origin and destination, and portrays a general view of the Qurʾān's scientific miracle.
