Sayyed Abul Fazl Burqiʿi (1908 – 1993) is one of the contemporary Iranian scholars who criticizes Shiites and Shiite beliefs. Burqiʿi does not accept the Imamate which is a divine appointment and divine authority. The purpose of this research is to review his views on Imamate and to examine the validity of these views by reviewing his arguments. Some Burqiʿi views on Imamate have a fundamental challenge to the necessities of the Shiite religion, while others in particular conflict with the necessity of the Twelver religion, that is, the existence of Imam Mahdi (as). And some reject the famous Shiite saying about issues related to Imamate: Burqiʿi denies the prophetic tradition in its actual form, he believes that there is no religious text on Imamate and the principle of Imamate is not mentioned in the Qurʿān. He also considers Imam Mahdi to be illusory. In the present study, by reviewing all the sayings of the burqa, first a clear picture of all of them is presented and it becomes clear that these views cannot be combined with Shiite attitudes. Then each of these cases will reveal the critique and weakness of his arguments based on Shiite principles.
